I recently purchased a Fenwick Nighthawk X combo which comes with a Pflueger reel. Most reels that can be switched from left to right hand come from the manufacturer set to reel left handed. I reel right handed and I swap all of my reels over from left to right.
This reel is a disc drag reel, which means that there is no drag bearing in the center to flip around. I spent a while trying to figure out how to flip this reel from left to right and after finding no instructions with my combo, I took a long look at the reel and found out how to do it.
There is a little gold pin on the spool under a metal disc with two screws (Seen below)
Removing those screws reveals a second pin, which is closer to the center of the spool. Notice the full hole and the hole that is not fully complete. The non fully complete hole goes over the smaller pin, the other pin is covered, and this makes the reel left hand retrieve. When the opposite occurs (The image to the left ) where the pin further from the center is through the full hole, the pin closer to the center is covered and the reel is right hand retrieve. Make sure that the divots are going over the pin that is covered (Notice the two drill outs that aren’t holes when the metal circle is flipped over). You're simply rotating that disc and screwing it back in.
This works because that pin runs on a track that only clicks one way, the pin further from the center of the spool only clicks when reeling right handed, and the pin closer to the center of the spool only clicks when reeling left handed. This track is on the gear on the reel ( the picture below on the right. )
